DIPT-RESDP SAP Showcased at SALCC Outreach Day Event

On April 16, 2025 the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) held its annual public outreach event at the Sir Dereck Walcott Square. The event which is held annually is used to promote the College and its diverse academic offerings and support services to prospective students, parents and the general public. Attendees also get the opportunity to engage directly with faculty members, receive assistance with applications, explore career guidance options and witness live demonstrations from various departments.

As customary, staff from all departments of the College were on hand to promote their programmes and answer questions. With registration set to end on April 30, 2025, this event is the final in the College's outreach calendar to recruit students into the new academic year. Previous outreach events included site visits and presentations to the various secondary schools on the island.

A key focus of this year's activity was the promotion of the DIPT-RESDP Scholarship and Apprenticeship Programme (SAP). The SAP had its own booth staffed by awardees of the current cohort of SAP awardees. The SAP provides two-year scholarships, and a 3-month paid apprenticeship, for females choosing to pursue a career in an energy related field at the SALCC. A scholarship covers annual tuition fees, laptop, uniforms, tool kit and transportation allowances. Thus far, forty-one (41) students have benefited from the SAP. The programme which officially ends in 2027, is accepting its final cohort of twelve (12) awardees, this year.
